Keypoint Law is delighted to announce that commercial and insurance lawyer, Michael Mitchell, has joined the firm.

Michael has more than 20 years’ experience in legal practice, and joins Keypoint after almost 11 years at boutique firm Curwoods Lawyers, where his final position was Special Counsel.  Michael’s practice has an international focus.  Many of his clients are Australian businesses that operate around the world, or foreign businesses who trade in Australia.

Michael’s expertise includes:

  • Insurance policy advice and large claims management, including acting for the insurer of a prominent Sydney educational institution defending a claim well in excess of $100 million – said to be the largest personal injury claim in Australian legal history;
  • Commercial transactions and corporate advisory, with particular interest in international commercial and trade transactions.
  • Dispute resolution and international arbitration.  Michael manages a wide variety of commercial disputes, including in the areas of building and construction, and corporations legislation.  He is one of a relatively small number of lawyers in Australia with expertise in the area of international arbitration.  He has advised on arbitrations in Stockholm, New York, Chicago, Florida and London, and enforced foreign arbitral awards in Australia, including the first enforcement of an award under the 2010 changes to the International Arbitration Act 1974 (Uganda Telecom Ltd v Hi Tech Telecom Pty Ltd).

Keypoint Law CEO Warren Kalinko stated:

Michael is an experienced lawyer whose international focus sits well with Keypoint’s overseas connections.  Our UK sister-firm Keystone Law has 165 senior lawyers in the UK and Europe working across 27 commercial law disciplines, which provides great synergies with Michael’s practice.  We’re delighted Michael has joined the firm”.

Michael Mitchell stated:

I believe Keypoint Law’s progressive and innovative business model will enable me to provide a service that is more focussed on my clients’ needs than is possible in the more traditional firm structure.  This is an exciting development in the legal industry in Australia and I am looking forward to being part of it”.

Ends.
